The ‘Rent a Desk' initiative (Open Schools Worldwide) supports children in Africa, many of whom cannot go to school and those who do generally do not have a desk to work at. We are supporting this initiative and on Wednesday 6 May we will have a non-uniform day with the children completing some of their school work sitting on the floor with no desk! A contribution of £2.00 would be appreciated with all money going to Open Schools. To give one child a basic education in Africa costs £40.00, which is a small amount when you consider the benefits an education can provide! Thank you for supporting us in our fund raising efforts:)
On Wednesday 1 April we will have our annual Easter Egg Rolling Competition for each class. If your child wishes to participate he/she will need to bring in a hard-boiled egg on Wednesday, decorated with either paints or felt tips, and with their name on it. There will be prizes for the owners of the egg first over the finishing line!
On Friday 27 March 2015, we will be having some special visitors, of the feathered kind, visiting Doagh Primary School! Mr Ian Patterson has a number of birds of prey and he will be coming along to the school to work with each class. During the morning the children will have the opportunity to learn about these birds, ask questions and view these wonderful creatures in a safe setting.
On Friday 13 March 2015 we are having a Neon Day to promote the importance of 'being seen' when walking, cycling or scooting to school. Come to school dressed as BRIGHTLY as you can, remember, we want to NOTICE you! Johnny McCrystal, our sustains Travel Officer, will be joining us during the day and leading our special assembly at 1.00pm.
World Book Day is on Thursday 5 March 2015. Children can come dressed as a character from a favourite book. We would be grateful if you could take a photograph of your child reading their favourite book in an unusual, but safe, place and send this into school on Thursday 5 March. We will have a prize for the most unusual reading place of a Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 pupil. Children can bring their favourite book to school and share this with their class during the day. We hope to have a parade of all the classes in the hall after lunch.
We have a number of activities organised this term in relation to our participation in the Sustrans Active Travel Programme. P6 children have the opportunity to participate in a Bikeability Cycle Training programme (25, 26 & 27 February). If not all of the P6 children wish to participate, some of the P7 children may have the opportunity to avail of this training. On Monday 9 February a free ‘Dr Bike’ bike safety check will be available to those children taking part in Bikeability. Johnny McCrystal, our Sustrans Active Travel Officer, will be taking a Neon Assembly on Friday 6 March to help us prepare for our Neon Day on Friday 13 March, when the children can come to school dressed in neon colours!
